‘Forgotten Women’ pays homage to the remarkable women who undertook the voyage to India in the 16th & 17th Centuries. They lie interred in a green and crumbling necropolis in the heart of modern Kolkata. South Park Street Cemetery was built for the earliest British pioneers of the East India Company. Amongst the tombs of merchants, military men and administrators lie those of women who also embarked on the long and arduous journey. The expectation of survival was just two monsoons.
